BRIGHTON · YOUR WORDS. YOUR SYMBOLS.

Tattoo Discovery Trail

Ren’s tattoos connect books, Welsh poetry, nature and personal meaning. Follow those themes through Brighton and discover artists who might help you turn your own story into an original design.

Watch Ren’s Tattoo Tour · inspiration source supplied by the community.

Artists below are independently researched portfolio references. None has opted into this trail, confirmed a Ren connection or agreed to a Ren-inspired commission. Appointments, prices and access must be confirmed directly. Drawing, browsing online or keeping an idea on paper are complete ways to take part.

SIX OPTIONAL PROMPTS

Make the meaning your own

01 · Words that stay

The supplied video summary connects Ren’s tattoos to Kurt Vonnegut. Choose a short sentence from your own life and try three different letter shapes.

Video · 00:24

02 · Above and below

The summary describes repeating patterns in nature. Sketch one shape twice: once as something tiny and once as something vast. This is an artistic metaphor.

Video · 01:09

03 · Flowers and home

Choose a plant that reminds you of somewhere you belong. Give your artist the memory, then let them propose their own composition.

Video · 03:40

04 · Welsh folklore and elements

The supplied summary links Taliesin to elemental imagery. Draw your own wind, water and fire symbols. The Welsh transcription and translation supplied with the video have not been verified; this guide supplies no tattoo-ready Welsh wording.

Video · 04:07

05 · A symbol and a bird

Explore the caduceus and bird motifs discussed in the summary. Invent a personal emblem and explain what it means to you; ask the artist about its design and symbolism.

Caduceus · 04:57 · Bird · 05:26

06 · Sun, moon and poetry

The Dylan Thomas tribute pairs poetry with celestial imagery. Write one original line about persistence, then sketch a sun or moon that fits it.

A DISCOVERY DAY, WITH BREAKS

Read → sketch → explore → rest

  1. Jubilee Library: start with the words or folklore prompt. The council lists free seating, Wi-Fi and an accessible toilet. Open in Maps · Council details.
  2. Bill’s, 100 North Road: an optional seated food break. Published disabled access is ground floor only; confirm seating and toilet access. Menu and visitor details.
  3. Studio Hatch, 3–4 Market Street: a central studio to research near the Lanes. Browse the portfolio online; enter only by arrangement. Its site has conflicting walk-in wording, so book with the artist rather than assuming drop-in access. Open in Maps.
  4. Shelter Hall: finish with food and reflection by the sea. Check kitchen times, suitable seating and lift arrangements. Visitor FAQ · Open in Maps.

Optional separate branch: Adam Campbell or Pozan at The Hidden Tannery, 10–11 Lewes Road. This is outside the short Lanes sequence; choose it instead of adding more walking. Open studio in Maps. Arrange a consultation directly; access, breaks and Halloween availability are unverified.

Open the community Ren’s Brighton map · Wiki map image and contributor information. Community music-location research; tattoo studio suggestions were researched separately.

Suggested destinations, not a surveyed walking route or hosted studio tour. A tattoo session is a separately arranged activity, not a timed trail stop. You can complete every prompt at home.

CENTRAL BRIGHTON · BLACK INK

Studio Hatch residents

The studio lists Mike Stout, Raised By Rain, Emile Toledo, Solemn Rose and Lui Lopez. Browse their work and choose by portfolio rather than assuming every artist offers the same style.

Its FAQ asks visitors who need assistance to contact it beforehand. Step-free access and suitable toilet facilities are unconfirmed.

Another portfolio resource: Good Company Tattoo

The collective offers custom work and artist-managed bookings, including Amie Culver. Its FAQ explicitly says the studio is on the fourth floor without step-free access. It is therefore an online discovery resource here, not a default physical route stop.

Take an idea to your chosen artist

Choose a theme and a portfolio to explore. Download a starting brief, then decide privately whether to contact the artist.

Original inspiration

This trail uses the video summary supplied by the community; the video itself could not be fetched during research. The six prompts are original Made Sick writing. No tattoo images are copied, and no artist is described as wanting to be Ren. An original commission should reflect your own story and the artist’s work.

Source and review notes

Artist names, styles, addresses and stated policies were checked against their own websites on 2 October 2026. Theme-to-artist matches are editorial suggestions. Registration, access and suitability have not been independently vetted. Current availability must be confirmed directly.

Community map scope: the supplied project description covers public filming and performance locations across Ren, The Big Push, Trick the Fox and other official releases. Pins may include use labels, song colours, timestamps, screenshot references and continuous-shot routes; some identifications are explicitly speculative. The community map is broader than this curated guide and is not a surveyed access route.

Additional contributor credit: serendipitish; codebyfire / Krzysztof Gnutek (Discord); Andy Harmer (Facebook), as credited in the supplied project description. We link to their research rather than reproducing its map image or video screenshots.

For fan photos or reenactments, use public spaces, keep entrances and pedestrian routes clear, and obtain any permission required for organised activity. This guide does not include private interiors or residential-doorway visits, even where the source map identifies them.
